How I became a Handyman

Becoming a handyman was somewhat natural for me. Growing up I always loved working with my hands on all types of projects. I loved building with Legos, erector sets, and wiring diagrams. I also loved taking things apart and seeing how they work. I also loved helping my mother with her wood working projects and got great experience with tools as well as repairing house hold items with my father. He would often show me what to do to repair or replace different items that needed some TLC.

While I was going to college I joined a team of security sales people and I would do the security system installs. I learned many skills such as drywall patching, drilling and securing alarm sensors, learning low voltage wiring and more. This experience pushed me more to learn how to do more variety of items.

In 2020 I signed up on an app called Handy for Pro that is owned or partnered with Wayfair furniture and I got started with jobs assembling all types of furniture, couches, bed frames, tables, cabinets, and more. I stayed with it for about 10 months and had enough repeat clients with enough work for me to stop do jobs under the app.

I have learned many new skills and pushed myself to try new types of jobs, from flooring, electrical, plumbing, and more. I love the variety of jobs and work that each client gives me, they are not all the same and theres enough variety that I don’t get sick of doing these laboring tasks.

If you want to get started with a side gig or a career as a Handyman Handy for Pros is a great way to find new clients. Quick update, Handy for Pros is now Angi’s Services app. Click here to sign up.
